The Hermitage is conveniently located in the beautiful Michiana Shores area midway between Michigan City, IN and New Buffalo, MI. We are less than one mile from Lake Michigan and the Harbor Country area. The Hermitage is about 1.5 hrs from Chicago with easy access by car, bus and rail. We can pick retreatants up at nearby bus and rail stations. Buses run regularly from both airports, The South Shore rail runs from Millenium station, and Amtrak from union station. There are bike options as well.

November 18th-December 9th 2019   3-4 pm CST

In this 4-week Feldenkrais Series you will gain more flexibility in your hips and knees while reducing strain and effort for sitting, walking, bending and lifting.

Cost is $75.00 for the entire series or $20/class for drop-in if room allows.



December 14th 2019      1-3 pm CST

In this 2-hour workshop you will learn to get up and down from a chair and then    from the floor with less effort and pain.  No matter what your ability or limitation, this class will move you towards more stability and more grace.

Cost is $45.00

Lojong Retreat
November 22-23
6:30pm Friday – Dinner Saturday at 6:00pm CST

Manjushree hermitage will again host a 24-hour retreat starting Friday November 22nd, 6:30-8:30pm and Saturday 9:30am, ending with a Dinner at 6:00pm.

Saturday will include a light lunch, tea, coffee and snacks during the day and of course dinner. If you are interested in participating let us know so we can plan meals accordingly.

Suggested donation for the retreat is $50. If you are interested in renting a cabin please let us know. Suggested donation is $25 a night.

If you are unable to physically make it to the meditation hall Friday evening, please let us know and we can provide instructions for sitting at home.

Join us for Group Meditation and Buddhist Study Programs

We have both weekly meditations and special programs. Please contact us with any questions.

Regular Programs at Manjushree Hermitage

Weekly Meditation & Book Discussion – Sundays at 10:00 am* in the Manjushree Hermitage meditation hall
Join our meditation and book discussion. Suitable for beginners, advanced practitioners and those who are simply curious.

We will start by developing the right motivation and then do two sessions of meditation using the Dorje Chang text to focus and rest the mind. We will conclude by dedicating merit for the benefit of all sentient beings. (10-11 a.m.).  We then spend an hour reading aloud and discussing essential books on Buddhist topics to reflect on connections to everyday life (11a.m.-noon). No prior reading or knowledge needed.  Participants are welcome to come at 9:30 for tea, coffee and social time before practice.

Monday Dharma Study Group – Monday, May 6, 2019 we will begin our in-depth study of the lojong (mind training text). We will meet in the meditation hall 6:30-7.00 for meditation followed by dharma study 7:00-8:00pm cst.

Thursday Evening 7-8pm – 7.00-7.30 open house with time for asking and answering questions about meditation. 7.30-8.00 Guided meditation.

Extended practice weekend retreats.   In addition to the meditation sessions, there will be opportunities to connect with other practitioners, read books from our library, and go for contemplative walks in the natural surroundings.  Rooms are available for participants during spring, summer and fall, but some choose to commute. Participants are welcome for all or part of the weekend program.  Meals and accommodations are provided for people who register.  We are donation based, so no fees are charged and food, facilities and programs are managed and maintained due to the financial generosity of practitioners.
